How long will my student have access to the course?
You’ll have access to 1-2 new lessons per week beginning on the Monday after you join the course, and new lessons will be released weekly for 36 weeks. Because we know you will want to take breaks and go at your own pace, you will have 18 months to complete the course with full access to all of the lessons.
What grade level is this for?
Sparked Art comes in two levels—elementary for younger students (grades 3-6) and secondary for middle and high school students (grades 7-12).
What types of artwork will my child experience?
The artwork features 36 artworks from across time and cultures. Say goodbye to your focus on your Da Vincis and Monets. We've got other voices and perspectives to learn from.
None of the artworks featured in the Sparked Art curriculum contain nudity.
The Sparked Art curriculum is committed to diversity and inclusion. It features a lot of interpretation exercises which ask students to use their own life experiences to connect with an artwork, so it is possible that politics or current events will come to mind through that personal connection. We see this as a learning opportunity that can open up bigger conversations between you and your child.
Does my child have to do the lessons on specific days?
No. We know homeschoolers are busy, so your child will have access to the entire course for 18 months.
Can I enroll more than one of my children at the same time?
When you purchase the course, you are purchasing the course for each member of your immediate family in your household. You can share the course as there are no tests or assignments to be submitted in the system.
Can my student earn high school credit for this course?
This course can count for a .5 credit in most states, which is approximately 60 hours of instruction and coursework. You will need to do specific research for your state to know for sure.
They’ll need to complete all of the following to accumulate the necessary course hours:
watch all course videos
thoroughly complete every artwork connection lesson
thoughtfully complete all assigned reflections and art projects
What additional books and supplies will I need for this course?
You need internet access as well as a Google account. The artwork lessons are available in Google Docs format so your child can answer the questions and save his or her work.
Each month features an art project using a variety of supplies, so having some oil pastels, paint, paper, glue, scissors, and drawing utensils on hand will be helpful. We’ll always provide versions with more basic supplies. (For example, one of the projects involves painting with a cold cup of coffee!)
